The studio, the week before
The new jersey is on the mannequin and the list is bigger than it was last season, because every order confirmation since spring has offered the opt-in.
Audience growth
A cycling apparel brand adds a newsletter opt-in to the order confirmation page and the registration form, unticked and respecting the audience's double opt-in setting. The Mailchimp pixel connects browsing to contacts, and SMS consent collected at checkout puts SMS alongside email for the moments that need a faster channel, like a drop that sells out in an hour.

Why it matters
An opt-in on the order confirmation page captures people at the moment they trust you most. They arrive in Mailchimp with an order already attached.
Subscriptions go through Magento's own newsletter subscription, honour the audience's double opt-in setting, and unsubscribes flow both ways by webhook.
The Mailchimp pixel tracks page views, product views, cart changes, search and checkout, identifying contacts by a hashed email.
SMS consent collected at checkout, with numbers from orders attached as consent unknown until the shopper opts in, so SMS runs from the same audience as email.
How it works
Enable the order confirmation page checkbox and the registration form checkbox in the extension configuration. Both are unticked, subscribe through Magento's newsletter, and sync to Mailchimp on the next contact sync.
The pixel ships off. Activate it per store view; the switch flips once Mailchimp confirms your account is pixel-enabled. Page views can be auto-tracked and emails are hashed for identification.
Confirm the Mailchimp SMS programme for the store view, then collect consent at checkout, standard or Hyvä. Shoppers manage it from their account, and a STOP reply reaches the store by webhook.
Double opt-in is read from the Mailchimp audience, and subscribes and unsubscribes are honoured in both directions, so the audience in Mailchimp always reflects what customers chose.
Ways merchants use it
Direct-to-consumer brands with launches and restocks, stores on Hyvä, and anyone whose list has been growing slower than their customer base.

The new jersey is on the mannequin and the list is bigger than it was last season, because every order confirmation since spring has offered the opt-in.

The email goes to everyone; the SMS goes to the contacts who chose it. The first size sells out in the time it takes to make a coffee.

The pixel showed who looked at the sold-out size. The restock note goes to exactly those contacts, and the second run sells without a discount.

Questions
On the order confirmation page, for guests and customers alike, and on the customer registration form. Both are off by default and switched on per store view.
Yes, if the Mailchimp audience has it on. The extension reads the setting from Mailchimp and shows it in the admin; it is not overridden in Magento.
Page views, product, category and search views, cart additions and removals, checkout and orders, identifying contacts by hashed email. It ships off and activates only after Mailchimp confirms the account is pixel-enabled.
No. Email works on its own. SMS needs an approved Mailchimp SMS programme, which is scoped to one country, and consent is collected at checkout or imported through the extension's API if you already hold it.
They are updated in Mailchimp, and the other way round, so nobody is messaged who asked not to be.
The setup wizard takes a few minutes. If something in your setup is unusual, the Marketing Automation team at ebizmarts is one email away.
