Campaign performance

The email that sold forty jackets, and the one that sold none.

A tailoring brand sends a campaign for the autumn range. Because orders sync with their products and values, Mailchimp attributes the revenue to the campaign; the Magento admin reads that revenue back into its own Campaign Performance Report and marks attributed orders in the order grid. The marketing director knows by Friday which email paid for itself.

Why it matters

What changes for the business.

Revenue, not just opens

Every campaign and journey shows what it sold, because the order sync carries the products and values to Mailchimp and the revenue is read back into the Magento admin.

Product-level insight

See which products each campaign moved, and let that decide the next one.

Answers by Friday

No export, no spreadsheet. The number is in Mailchimp and in the Magento admin the day after the send.

Numbers you can reconcile

The documentation explains how attribution works and why Mailchimp and Magento revenue can differ, so finance and marketing use the same figures.

How it works

Step by step, from the first switch-on.

  1. 1

    Send from Mailchimp

Campaigns and journeys go out from Mailchimp to the segments the extension maintains.

  2. 2

    Orders sync with attribution

A visit from a campaign link is recorded, the order that follows is stamped with the campaign, and it syncs with its products and values so Mailchimp attributes the revenue.

  3. 3

    Read it in either admin

Mailchimp shows revenue per campaign and journey; the Campaign Performance Report in the Magento admin shows the same figures, and the order grid carries a Mailchimp attribution column.

  4. 4

    Reconcile when asked

The revenue discrepancies guide explains attribution windows, refunds and currencies, so the two numbers can be tied out.

Ways merchants use it

One brand, one campaign, one week.

Marketers who report to finance, brands with many campaigns, and anyone who has been asked what the newsletter is worth.

The autumn send

The campaign goes out on Tuesday. By Thursday the orders are attributed, product by product, in Mailchimp.

The jacket that sold

One jacket carried the campaign. The next email leads with it, and the fabric is reordered before it sells out.

The finance question

Finance asks why Mailchimp's number is higher than Magento's. The discrepancies guide has the answer: two refunds and a currency conversion.

Questions

What merchants ask before they turn it on.

Where do I see campaign revenue?

In Mailchimp per campaign and journey, in the Campaign Performance Report in the Magento admin, and per order in the order grid's attribution column.

How are orders attributed?

A visit from a Mailchimp campaign link is recorded on the shopper's session, the order that follows is stamped with the campaign, and Mailchimp attributes the synced order's revenue to it.

Why might Mailchimp and Magento revenue differ?

Attribution windows, refunds and currency conversion. The revenue discrepancies page in the documentation walks through each.

Does it show which products a campaign sold?

Yes. Product-level order data syncs, so product performance per campaign is visible in Mailchimp.

Do I need a paid Mailchimp plan?

The extension is free. Reporting features depend on your Mailchimp plan.
