Payments & terminals

The card machine is part of the till, not a second job.

A camera store sells a lens that costs more than a laptop. The amount goes to the terminal from the iPad, the customer taps or inserts, the receipt prints, and the payment is recorded on the Magento order with a full audit trail. If the reader is waiting and the customer changes their mind, the cashier cancels from the till.

Why it matters

What changes for the business.

No mistyped amounts

The total goes from the till to the terminal. Nobody keys a four-figure amount into a standalone machine, so nobody keys it wrong.

Every step on the record

Sent, approved, declined, cancelled, refunded: each step is logged on the device and in support diagnostics, so a query is answered without reproducing it.

The right acquirer per country

Adyen, Opayo, Authorize.Net, Zettle, Cayan, Windcave, Transbank and more, configured per device and store, so a multi-country chain keeps its local banking.

Wallets and financing at the counter

Apple Pay and Google Pay on the reader, Klarna in-store financing and Splitit instalments where the customer would rather spread the cost.

How it works

Step by step, from the first switch-on.

  1. 1

    Choose the gateway per store

The integrated payments platform runs on Stripe Terminal readers; regional gateways bring their own hardware. Each device and store is configured in the POS admin.

  2. 2

    The till drives the terminal

On checkout the amount is sent to the reader. The customer taps, inserts or pays by wallet; a must-confirm step and min/max totals per tender protect the cashier.

  3. 3

Cancel if the customer changes their mind

While the reader waits for a card, the cashier can cancel from the till. Nothing is charged and the sale can be changed.

  4. 4

    Record, print, refund

The payment is written to the Magento order with its audit trail, the receipt prints, and a later refund goes back to the same card from the credit memo, in full or in part.

Ways merchants use it

One counter, one week.

High-value retail where a failed capture is expensive, multi-country retailers with different acquirers per store, and anyone tired of typing amounts into a standalone machine.

The customer paying by card at the camera store counter

The lens

A four-figure sale. The amount is sent to the reader, the customer taps, and the approval is on the order before the receipt has finished printing.

The same assistant taking a returned lens out of its box at the counter

The return

The same lens comes back with a fault. A partial credit memo on the till refunds exactly the lens to the original card, and the report shows it next to the sale.

The same assistant tearing off the receipt roll while closing the store

The close

Card totals reconcile against the shift by payment type, terminal by terminal. What printed on the roll is what Magento has.

Questions

What merchants ask before they turn it on.

Which readers work?

The integrated platform runs on Stripe Terminal readers. Other supported terminals depend on the gateway: Adyen, Opayo, Windcave, Transbank and others each have their own hardware.

Can I refund to the card?

Yes. Refunds go back to the original tender, including terminal refunds and partial refunds, from the credit memo on the till.

What if the reader stalls?

The cashier can cancel while the reader waits for a card, and every step is logged on the device and in support diagnostics so a stalled payment can be traced without reproducing it.

Can different stores use different acquirers?

Yes. Gateways are configured per device and store, so one chain can run different acquirers in different countries.

Does the till take wallets?

Yes. Apple Pay and Google Pay are accepted on the reader as contactless, with no extra setup on the till.
