Orders & fulfilment

The store is a warehouse when the website needs one.

A footwear brand's flagship has the size the warehouse does not. The online order appears in the store's pick queue, the team picks from a printed list, packs at the bench, prints the label, and the shipment is recorded on the Magento order. Click-and-collect orders wait in their own list until someone marks them ready for pickup.

Why it matters

What changes for the business.

Fewer online orders cancelled

When the warehouse is out and a store is not, the order ships from the store instead of being refunded.

Quiet hours put to work

Store staff pick and pack between customers, from a sortable queue, and the website's promise dates hold.

Collect in store, properly

Click-and-collect orders sit in their own list and are marked ready for pickup against Magento 2.4 inventory, so nobody turns up for a parcel that is not there.

One order, several boxes

Split an order across addresses or shipments with live carrier rates, and every shipment is on the Magento order.

How it works

Step by step, from the first switch-on.

  1. 1

The order lands in the queue

Website orders assigned to the store appear in the pending-pack list on the till, searchable and sortable, with a printable pick list.

  2. 2

    Pick from the shelf

Staff pick against the list, and the till confirms each item as it is scanned so a wrong size never reaches the box.

  3. 3

    Pack, label, ship

Packing and shipping documents print from the till, the carrier rate is live, and the shipment is created on the Magento order with its tracking.

  4. 4

Or hand it over at the counter

Click-and-collect orders are marked ready, the customer is emailed, and "reserve online, pay in store" orders wait for payment at the till.

Ways merchants use it

One web order, from shelf to hands.

Brands with stores and a website sharing stock, and any retailer that wants store staff fulfilling online orders in the quiet hours.

The same staff member pulling a shoebox from the shelf wall with a pick list

The pick

A size 42 the warehouse does not have. The pick list prints, the box comes off the wall, and the scan confirms it is the right one.

The staff member packing a shoebox into a carton at the bench

The bench

Packed, labelled, and the shipment written to the Magento order with tracking. The customer gets the dispatch email before the courier arrives.

The same staff member handing a bag to a customer at the counter

The collection

A different order, marked ready for pickup that morning. The customer collects at the counter and the order closes in Magento as it is handed over.

Questions

What merchants ask before they turn it on.

Can store staff see and act on website orders?

Yes. Online orders are searchable from the till, can be edited for addresses, taxes and promotions, cancelled, and fulfilled from the pick queue.

What shipping methods are available?

Any Magento shipping method with live rates, plus Pick and Carry and Ship to Store carriers.

How do exchanges and refunds work?

Credit memos are created from the till, full or partial, with adjustment fees, refund to original tender, gift card, store credit or coupon, and a quick-exchange flow protected by PIN.

Can one order ship from two stores?

Yes. Split shipments can go from different sources and to different addresses, each recorded as its own shipment on the Magento order.

Does the customer get notified?

Yes. Magento's own shipment and pickup emails go out as the till creates the shipment or marks the order ready.
